We are proud to have as our President the world-famous cellist Steven Isserlis, who was born in Barnes and comes from an extraordinarily musical family. His two sisters are professional string players (Annette a violist and Rachel a vioinist) and his grandfather Julius Isserlis was a famous Russian pianist and composer.
The recipient of many honours, Steven was awarded a CBE in 1998 in recognition of his services to music, and in 2000 he received the Schumann Prize of the City of Zwickau.
Steven plays the Marquis de Corberon (Nelsova) of 1726, kindly loaned to him by the Royal Academy of Music.
WELCOME TO BARNES MUSIC SOCIETY
Barnes Music Society aims to foster an appreciation of music by promoting first-class concerts and encouraging other musical activities, especially involving young musicians.
These last aims are achieved by the annual Barnes Young Musician of the Year competition (run in conjunction with the Barnes Music Festival) and annual concerts given by local young performers at our AGM.
The Society in is current form was created through a merger in 1985 of Castelnau Concerts with the Barnes Music Club, although its roots go back over more than 50 years.
Barnes Music Society is a registered charity (no. 248878) and its committee members provide their services as volunteers. We are always happy to welcome new members and to discuss funding opportunities with potential corporate sponsors and charitable foundations.
Great Value Season Ticket only £60 (for admission to ALL concerts (except any special charity events)
Due to Covid-19 seating capacity restrictions, ALL members MUST reserve their tickets online, subject to availability, during a priority period before each concert when we can offer them as live events. Members will receive notification of a special link to enable them to do this. Members cannot book tickets in advance for non members. Any remaining tickets will go on general sale 2 weeks before each concert.
We have made some very special recordings of some concerts this year when we have not been permitted to allow audiences, and these have been made available online to our members in exclusive premieres.
Special arrangements are being made for live-streamed concerts, details of which our members will receive full details.
Tickets for individual concerts where audiences are allowed cost £15 and MUST be pre-booked online when available, and will NOT be on sale at the door.

We welcomed the Eblana String Trio in a live simulcast on 17 February and recorded a very special concert with Emily Sun (violin) and Caterina Grewe (piano) which was premiered online to members on 1 May. We are also made an exclusive recording of the Pelleas Ensemble which was premiered online to members on 20 March. Rokas Valuntonis has also reorded for us and we plan the online premiere of his excellent programme on a date to be advised in May.
